In Bolivia, we are implementing an intelligent digital platform to enhance the management of MiTeleférico, the world’s largest urban cable car network, spanning 33 km with more than 1,450 cabins and carrying 220,000 passengers daily.
This initiative marks the start of a fruitful partnership, improving urban transport quality and efficiency in La Paz and El Alto.
La Paz and El Alto are enhancing their urban transportation system through a groundbreaking project focused on MiTeleférico, the world’s largest urban cable car network. This initiative aligns with Sparkoper’s mission to advance sustainable development and improve urban mobility. The MiTeleférico project, launched on April 15, 2022, is a collaborative effort involving key partners such as MiTeleférico, the French Government, and Sparkoper.

Project Achievements
- Digital Platform: Implementation of a smart digital platform for real-time management of more than 1,450 cable cars using RFID technology. This platform optimizes maintenance costs, ensures safety, and improves operational efficiency.
- Passenger Experience: Enhanced passenger experience through better management of complaints, maintenance scheduling, and advertising in cabins.
- Economic Impact: The system transports approximately 220,000 passengers daily, significantly improving urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion.
Training and Implementation
- Staff Training: Comprehensive training programs have been conducted for local staff, ensuring optimal use of the platform and the newly installed RFID technology.
- System Integration: The system includes 1,412 RFID tags, 20 readers, and 20 antennas, with additional units in reserve for future needs.
The MiTeleférico project not only aims to improve the operational management of the world’s largest urban cable car network but also sets a new standard for urban transportation in La Paz and El Alto. Thanks to the support of local and international partners, this project demonstrates a successful model for other regions to emulate.
